Victoria is home to a comprehensive array of facilities and platform technologies, including unique capabilities such as the Australian Synchrotron, the Victorian Cancer Biobank, BioGrid Australia, and the Victorian Life Sciences Computation Initiative.

Launched in 2010, the Victorian Platform Technologies Network connects Victoria’s extensive platform technologies and is a central access point for research and industry.

Victoria is Australia’s largest biotechnology sector. Comprising more than 135 biotechnology companies, 13 major medical research institutes, eleven teaching hospitals and nine universities, Victoria is an innovative hub for world-recognised bioscience.

Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city, is home to 50% of the top 20 biotechnology companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and almost 65% of Australia’s top biotechnology companies by market capitalisation.
